Calculation and Design of Acoustic Screens for Noise Reduction in Housing Development
A new method of calculation of acoustic efficiency of reflecting-absorbing acoustic screens (AS) for reducing the noise in the housing development is proposed on the basis of the statistical acoustic theory. Two computational models with different types of noise source, point and linear, are considered. The first model presents the sound transmission through the free edge of AS in the form of a linear transmitter of cylindrical sound waves, the second model – in the form of a conventional flat transmitter. The obtained formulas take into consideration the location of AS in the space regarding the noise source and reference point, geometrical sizes of AS (height, length), character of diffraction on the free edge, sound absorbing (reflecting) properties of AS, the type of a noise source. The verification of proposed calculation methods was made on the stand where AS were tested in actual size. It is shown that the methods offered ensure higher accuracy (deviations are less than (1-2) dB) comparing with calculations made according to the accepted methods (deviation – (4-5) dB. Recommendations for projecting and designing of AS for noise reduction in a housing development have been developed.
